Are you passionate about storytelling? Do you want to learn how CNN gathers and verifies news? Do you want to learn how to produce engaging content?
Then CNN Academy Abu Dhabi is for you.
CNN Academy Abu Dhabi will provide UAE nationals and residents interested in the media the opportunity to learn about multi-platform storytelling.
The five-week course will commence in January 2021 and will combine online learning with in-person workshops in Abu Dhabi. Led by a team of experienced journalists, participants will learn how to pitch, prepare and produce a broadcast-ready story.
Only open to UAE nationals and residents over the age of 21 who have a background and/or interest in media and multiplatform storytelling.
Through online workshops and webinar sessions with senior CNN journalists, participants will learn how CNN gathers information, verifies sources and produces content for its multiple platforms. During in-person workshops at CNN Abu Dhabi, participants will get a behind-the-scene look at the production of the network’s flagship current affairs show, Connect the World with Becky Anderson, live from CNN Abu Dhabi.
Throughout the course, participants will also work on producing their own multiplatform content. They will pitch a story idea, get it approved, work with a team of professional photographers and editors to shoot and edit it, script and present it. The best content will be featured on CNN. CNN Academy Abu Dhabi is tuition-free, however, participants need to ensure they can attend the five-week program full time.
Who can apply?
CNN Academy Abu Dhabi will only accept applications from UAE nationals and residents over the age of 21 who have a background and/or interest in media and multiplatform storytelling.
CNN Academy Abu Dhabi is a full-time five-week course. Successful applicants will have to attend online lectures and in-person workshops throughout the duration of the program, while adhering to any and all social distancing rules that might be in place in January 2021.
Applicants must be proficient in written and spoken English.
What's the application process?
one/ Prepare a short video telling us about yourself and pitch us a story you would like to work on if you are accepted into CNN Academy.
two/ Apply by October 31st 2020.
four/ Successful candidates will have untill December 15th 2020 to accept their place and submit any other additional documents.
five/ CNN Academy Abu Dhabi commences on January 10th 2021.
What to include in your pitch?
Think about a subject or story you are passionate about and would want to share with a global audience. Then write a strong, clear, 500-word pitch telling us how your angle, or the way you want to present the story, is unique and timely.
Try answering the following questions in your pitch:
- What is your story?
- Why is it important for a global audience to learn about it?
- How is your angle unique?
What is the short video introduction?
At CNN Academy Abu Dhabi, you will have the opportunity to learn about multiplatform storytelling and meet and interact with CNN journalists as well as guest speakers from across the industry. We want to learn a bit about you.
So, send us a minute-long video telling us who you are, what you are passionate about and why you are the right candidate to be selected for CNN Academy Abu Dhabi. Keep it short but creative.
